Why You Should Delete Your Company Emails

Ever look through your archived email and feel…overwhelmed?

With all of the media attention on the IRS and their email retention policies, it got me thinking about Optimal’s email retention policies—and those of our clients.

After all, email is the main communication medium for most organizations and so, to operate optimally, they must automate archiving, locating, and deleting messages.

Developing an email retention policy can be daunting. When starting the process, consider the following:

1) What kinds of emails do you need to keep?
2) How long do you need to keep them?
3) What kinds of emails should get thrown away?
4) Who, ultimately, decides which emails to keep and throw away?
5) Are there any automatic rules that you can put into place to help enforce this policy?
