Practical Take-Away from the Ashley Madison Hack

We’ve all heard about it by now–hackers released personal information (including email addresses and credit card information) on Ashley Madison’s 32 million registered users.
 
Besides the obvious lesson (perhaps to not hand over all of your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to a site dedicated to cheating on your spouse, or to *ahem* not sign up in the first place?) there is also a very practical take-away here as it relates to our overall approach to IT and cybersecurity.
