How an Email Retention Policy Could Have Saved Sony

As you’ve probably heard, Sony Pictures recently fell victim to a large-scale hack that many are calling an act of cyberterrorism.

On top of threats of violence and the release of an overwhelming amount of Sony employees’ personal information, the self-professed “Guardians of Peace” also targeted Sony’s private email communications (which range from embarrassing to downright incriminating).

It’s times like these when the importance of a company-wide email retention policy become glaringly clear. Just think: How much shame could these executives have avoided if their emails were automatically deleted after a set amount of time? Probably a lot…
