Network Assessment

With Optimal's Network Assessment, you receive a comprehensive evaluation of your organization's network and IT systems to ensure that they conform to industry best practices and are meeting your business needs.

There are several steps to Optimal's Network Assessment:

  • INTERVIEW: We interview you about your system to find out how your business uses technology to meet goals, what is important to you, what is working well, and what technology challenges you are experiencing.
  • SYSTEM AUDIT: We examine and document each of your central systems and their configuration to understand what you have and how it is working for you.
  • SECURITY ANALYSIS: We "ethically hack" into your system to see how vulnerable you are. We look at the security of your servers, your firewall, spyware and antivirus software, and your overall network environment.
  • DATA ANALYSIS: We compare the information about your system to industry best practices for organizations of your size and capability.
  • PRESENTATION AND DELIVERABLES: We meet with you to go over the assessment and provide documentation, analysis, and recommendations for each element of your system. We also provide you with budgetary projections on all short-term recommendations and any mid- or long-range improvements you want to implement.

Some of the items that will be reviewed as part of the Network Assessment include:

  • Firewall
  • Server Hardware and Operating Systems
  • Server Room Environment
  • Antivirus, Antispyware, Antispam Protection
  • Backup Systems
  • Remote Access
  • Usage Policies and Procedures

As Systems Manager of a company that works to meet the human resources needs of more than 150 employers across 17 states, I have a lot on my plate. In January 2008, I was also preparing for motherhood. To alleviate some of my anxiety before going on maternity leave, I asked Optimal Networks to perform a Network Assessment on our systems. After all, I was going to be out, a temporary IT professional was taking on some of my duties, and I wanted to identify any system problems so I could leave with a clear mind.

Optimal Networks came in and analyzed all of our servers and security measures. They tested our passwords, interviewed employees about the network, and even tried to (ethically) hack into our network from the outside. Then, they met with us to review the assessment. They recommended adding an Active Directory server, upgrading our switches to gigabit switched ports, and updating our cabling. We are now working to implement these recommendations.

Because of Optimal’s Network Assessment service, I know that every aspect of our network has been analyzed and that we are in great shape moving forward. I left for maternity leave with peace of mind…and I’ve had it ever since.
