Disaster Recovery

In the event of an actual disaster, would your company survive? Would your mission-critical information be protected? Would you be able to resume operations in a timely fashion? If you're like most of us, you don't have definite answers to these questions.

That's where Optimal Networks' Disaster Recovery service—a premium consulting service for disaster preparedness—can help.

With Optimal's Disaster Recovery Service, you receive:

  • Informational Interviews — Optimal engineers perform interviews with key employees in your organization and determine how much and what kind of data each department could stand to lose—and for how long.
  • Current State-of-Readiness Analysis — Optimal engineers perform a comprehensive review of your systems to assess your operation's weaknesses and to determine how your level of preparedness compares to technology best practices at other same-industry, same-size organizations.
  • Scenarios and Solutions — Optimal creates representative disaster scenarios so you can see, in detail, exactly how your organization would be affected. Optimal also provides two solutions for each scenario - one that is lower in cost and one that is higher end.
  • Recommendations — Optimal meets with key leaders in your organization one-on-one to make formal solution recommendations and discuss the implementation of each solution. Then, you make an informed decision on how to better prepare your organization for the unthinkable.

We hired Optimal Networks to perform a Disaster Recovery analysis for us in January 2007. As Director of IT and Systems for an international trade association, I felt certain we had all the right security measures in place, but also knew that you can never be too careful when it comes to disaster-proofing your systems.

Optimal came in as an unbiased third party to evaluate our infrastructure at all levels and then offered recommendations as to how we could improve operations. They did a great job and made helpful suggestions that we implemented. They identified our tape system of backup as a potential point of failure. We were relying on people to do the tape rotations and that is never a fool-proof solution. Based on their analysis, we ended up utilizing Optimal’s backup and disaster recovery service, dataGuard. They also noticed that although we were following specific IT policies and procedures, these were not officially documented. As a result, we worked with Optimal to document our association’s IT “rules” including acceptable usage policies and basic information about dealing with network accounts. Now, these IT usage standards are part of our employee handbook.

We knew we were in pretty good shape before Optimal came in. But having an independent party evaluate your disaster recovery systems is always a great way to start the improvement process. No system is perfect and this service helped us fine tune our security measures so that we can rest easy in the face of the unthinkable.
