- Identify client needs, design, propose and implement solutions, including writing recommendations , specifying equipment, assisting in or directly writing proposals
- Troubleshoot and resolve client network and computer system issues
- Manage or coordinate installation, upgrade, or deployment projects, including providing onsite direction for additional network engineers
- Assist network engineers in troubleshooting difficult or time-sensitive problems
- Assist other Optimal Networks network engineers with projects, as a direct participant, and to lend your unique areas of expertise when required
- Mentor and assist network engineers, both in technical and human practices

- An understanding of modern technology and its business applications
- A proven track record demonstrating an ability to work with designing, managing, and troubleshooting information systems technologies in a business environment
- Deep experience and expertise in Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP (MCSE certification highly desired), and other related technologies such as backup systems, virus protection, desktop operating systems, network faxing, contact management, email, Internet configuration, and basic networking technologies. Novell NetWare and Lotus Notes/Domino experience a plus.
- Ability to install, upgrade, and troubleshoot PC-based computer hardware, including server technologies such as SCSI subsystems, RAID systems, and so forth
- Detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of IP protocols, firewalls, and so forth, including basic router configuration knowledge
- Experience configuring, installing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure technologies such as Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Token Ring.
- Excellent ability to solve problems independently
- Excellent communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken English
- A personal vehicle for transportation to and from client sites (Optimal does reimburse mileage)
- Ability to lift and move computing equipment
- At least 4 years paid professional experience in a corporate, consulting, or non-profit setting managing networked computer environements
- Associates or (preferably) Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivilent work experience. Appropriate industry certifications are a plus
